I Agree with the authors definition of a White Lie. That a White Lie is told in place of the truth because it is more polite or more considerate towards the other person. Yes when you lie your are not telling the truth but your doing it for a greater good. The example the author uses in the case of the army men is perfect. You know for certain that the man is dead but to honor his or her family you keep the hope for them that that person may return because the dead solider earned that fighting.
By telling a white lie why yes you are lying you doing so for the greater good. I am not big on lying but in cases when it is better or simply makes thing less commplicated i think it is aproriate. And only in cases like this do i feel it is appropriate to do so.

Weekend In Tahoe
This picture here was taken about a year ago when I was in Tahoe for the weekend with my two friends. My friend Tyler had invited me And are other friend Casey to go up to Tahoe for the weekend. For me this picture brings a lot of things to mind more than how much I like the picture, but also the thoughts and memories it brings up for me.
For starters one of the things I like most about this picture is the picture itself.
I can’t really find a way to describe it but the way the inverted colors make everything look is just bizarre. Although I liked the original picture I like this one even more because its more unique than most.
When I look at this picture I think of that whole weekend as if it was yesterday.
We stayed up there for two night and three days just Snowboarding all day and just kicking back in the hotel room and we had a blast. I even remember the exact spot and why we had stopped at this point. We were riding across the top of the mountain at heavenly ski resort and had gotten stuck on a slight up hill on the way over to the Nevada side of the resort.
I also see more than just the spot when we took this picture though. If I look at this picture its like movie playing of the whole weekend the drive up there, every day of snowboarding everything up until I fell asleep on the ride back. I remember the first I had
Corbin 2
fallen going almost dead stop speed and managed to knock the wind out of myself and my friend Tyler just wouldn’t let it go all weekend. Then on the last day in nearly the same spot at nearly the same speed as Tyler did the same thing to himself.
So when most people look at this picture they see just a picture kids in snow gear with a lake behind them. When I see this picture I see that and more and I can vividly remember the whole weekend and all the fun I had during that weekend.

Rules for Writers Chapter 1
Chapter 1 is bout Generating ideas and making a plan for your paper. The first thing you should do is figure out the situation your writing for. This includes the subject of your writing, the purpose of the paper, who you are writing the paper for, and were you gathered you info from. Most time you are assigned a subject but when you are able to choose your own be sure to choose a subject that interest you. You should try to get your information from personal experience, reading or daily observations. Wherever you get your information from make sure you write so the reader understands what you saying or describing( always assume you reader knows nothing on the subject) A very important part of the writing process is figuring out the purpose . the purpose of you paper can directly effect the format of your writing are you writing to inform, persuade or entertain it is important to distinguish between the different purposes. One of the most important things is realizing who your writing writing for. By doing this you can make sure to keep the reader interested you don't want to loose the attention of your reader. Making sure you reach the needs of your reader and keep them interested and curious. Once you've done this you can do a freewrite to brainstorm ideas and form a thesis. Now that you have you ideas you can organize them into a outline the out line will help you organize these thoughts and ideas into paragraphs and then into a paper.
I plan to use a lot of what I read in my writing. I think the biggest thing I need to work on is identifying my subject, audience and purpose of my writing. If I start focusing on that more I think it will put a more specific purpose to my paper and make it more direct. Also I need to not assume that my audience knows as much as I do on the subject.

"The Joy of Reading and Writing: Superman and Me"
Education is a means to save ones life because without education you can not advance you life and life skills.Without education you cannot advance skills you have or gather new skills to improve you life. With education you can expand your horizon and find out what you really enjoy in life. Without education people in bad situation wouldn't know how to better themselves and others.
Alexie is attempting to save the lives of the children he works with by trying to provide them with an education so they can learn to help themselves. By teaching the children or at least trying to teach them he give the kids the choice to improve the lives they live. But he cannot help all of the children because some have given up on themselves because society says no matter what they will fail. He only does what he can and hopes to get through to them.
Alexie saved his own life through education. he taught himself to read and furthered his education through reading . By reading everything he could he educated himself enough enough to prove everyone one and make something of himself.

Rules For Writers Chapter 46
This chapter gives you very helpful writing tips to keep in mind when your not even writing but while reading. One thing you can do while reading is take little notes as read. As you read ask questions why is the author being so descriptive, or just jot down your reaction you get when you read a certain passage. Another good tip i got from this was to reread things to get a better understanding of what the author is really trying to say.
Besides tips for writing while you read there is also good tips on how to better prepare your thoughts and ideas and structure your paper. A way to help prep your writing and thoughts is to first find out the authors ideas and thoughts. Once you find the thesis and analyze the supporting facts and compare them with the notes you have. this can help you find a thesis for you own paper do you agree with the author or ask a question about why the author did something a certain way and if you agree or disagree.
I got a lot out of reading this that I think I could use in my writing. Something I've never done while reading is take notes about what I'm thinking. This would help me because the majority of the times I read something I don't write about it until later. Along with the note taking tips Ive never set up an outline for something Ive read only for things I'm going to write. If I try to apply this next time I have to read something and write on something my writing will most likely improve if I didn't.

"FreeWrite Exercise"
A freewrite is simple that a piece of writing freely off the top off your head. It is supposed ideas off the top off your head with no filter. You shouldn't worry about grammar or spelling when doing a freewrite. The idea is you write down you true feelings without worry about any outside distractions all it like a fisrt draft of thoughts you pull some of you true feelings out for writing from frewrites.
Freewrites improve you're writing in many ways. By writing down the first thoughts that come to mind you not thinking of what someone who reads it is going to think or what grade your going to get. After you are done with a freewrite you go back reread it later thatt day or another day and the ideas you like from that freewrite you can advance on either in another freewrite or in your paper.
I was somewhat skeptical about freewrites thinking they were a waste of time. But after last semester freewrite notebook i realized it really helped me. I never understood why but writing just started getting easier. After reading up on freewrites it clicked I didn't even realize but i was using my freewrites as a very ruff draft but most of all was coming up with strong thesis by seeing strong points coming up again and again. Now I see that I got these good strong ideas because i could see how much they came up and were constantly on my mind. This made my writing better reflect my opinion.
